What can students/attendees expect?

Friends and Filipino-American Community members who attend the lecture series can expect to pay a participation fee. This fee will go towards the $10,000.00 "seed" money, needed to establish a development fund for the establishment of a Philippine Studies program and center at U-M.

They can also expect that their attendance and enthusiasm for this course will show the University a more demanding need for the establishment of this Philippines Studies program. Once upon a time, UofM was an extremely active source for academics from the Philippines and others interested in the Philippines. Unfortunately, the large resource of academicians dedicated to the study has dwindled, and although UofM has one of the oldest collections of artifacts, literature, and study on the Philippines, it is extremely difficult for students to find experts and courses to examine these resources. At the University level, critical examination and analysis of where Filipinos have come from, how they interact, their experiences in the U.S. and other cultures, is extremely important in furthering our understanding of where Filipinos are going to be in the future.
